Research

The Institute of Education at the University of Szeged belongs to a Hungarian flagship research university.

Diverse fields of educational research

The Institute’s research activity covers a wide range of topics, including early childhood development, school readiness, reading comprehension, science and mathematics education, educational assessment and evaluation, development of thinking skills, metacognition, motivation, digital learning technologies, digital game-based learning, and foreign language education. Our research spans the entire educational spectrum, from preschool to higher education.

International engagement

We engage in truly international educational research. For example, we are a formal partner in the Horizon-Europe MapIE project, analysing longitudinal data on educational inequalities together with other top-tier universities across Europe.

Methodological and empirical depth

The research groups affiliated with the Institute emphasise contemporary research methods (e.g., large-scale data collection, experimental and quasi-experimental designs, log data analysis) and apply them in real learning environments.

Applied relevance & education-science interface

We participate in cutting-edge national research programmes, such as the Research Programme for Public Education Development of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. We place strong emphasis on meaningful connections to schooling, instruction, teacher-training, digital learning environments, learner motivation, and early childhood processes. In other words: our research is clearly aligned with educational practice and policy.
